Denver, Colorado:  The Queen City of the Plains, the Mile High City, The Rail City, and the Capital of the RockyMountain Empire. Named after the Kansas Territorial Governor James W. Denver, it was originally situated at the confluence of the East Platte River and Cherry Creek. On the high plains just 15 miles east of the foothills of the Southern Rockies, Denver enjoys a mild and dry climate with at least 300 bright sunny days a year. The Denver metropolitan area is the most populous in the entire state of Colorado, and for 600 miles around the city itself.

 

Denver boasts one of the finest mass-transit systems in the country, and is a center of technology for the New West. It is home to six major university systems and a host of world-class elementary and secondary school systems. Housing ranges from single family homes to high-end condominium complexes, with prices affordable at a multitude of incomes. Cost of living in the Denver metropolitan area is comparable to other large Midwestern cities in the areas of groceries and utility spending.

 

 

Denverites may be best-known for their love of the outdoors, however. Every neighborhood has a park, walking trail, or open space within walking distance, and views of the Rockies can be had from virtually anywhere in the metropolitan area. Up in those towering granite peaks are summer and winter activities for people of all abilities, all within an easy drive of the city. From the most laid-back park or reservoir to the fanciest resorts, it isn’t difficult to find something to do. And don’t forget that Denver boasts teams in all four of the Major Leagues: NHL Colorado Avalanche, NBA Denver Nuggets, MLB Colorado Rockies, and NFL Denver Broncos.

 

Denver has its finger on the pulse of fine arts and cultural diversity, including the Denver Art Museum, Denver Museum of Nature & Science, Colorado History Museum, Colorado Historically Society, Denver Public Library, Children's Museum of Denver, Molly Brown House Museum, University of Denver Anthropology Museum, Colorado Railroad Museum, Mizel Museum of Judaica, and the Rocky Mountain Quilt Museum, to name a few.
